Understanding the procedure

Small procedure.
Important decision.

Dr Elizabeth offers no-scalpel vasectomy using the technique she trained in with Dr Doug Stein. Your consultation is a chance to understand the procedure, ask questions and consider whether it is right for you.

Vasectomy is intended to be permanent. It has risks and is not effective immediately — follow-up testing is an essential part of your care.

Read all FAQs
Is a vasectomy permanent?

Yes. Vasectomy is intended to be permanent. Reversal involves further surgery and does not guarantee a pregnancy. If you are unsure about having children in the future, discuss other contraception options and sperm storage at your consultation.

When can I stop using other contraception?

Only after your follow-up semen test has been reviewed and your doctor has given you clearance. Vasectomy does not work immediately. Follow the clinic’s testing instructions and keep using contraception until you are told it is safe to stop.

How much time will I need off work?

This depends on your recovery and what your job involves. Physical work and heavy lifting generally need a longer break than desk work. Discuss your work, exercise and travel plans at your consultation so you can plan appropriate time off.

How much does a vasectomy cost?

Contact the clinic for current consultation and procedure fees. Ask what the quote includes, whether follow-up testing has a separate cost, and whether you are eligible for a Medicare rebate. We will help you clarify the costs before booking.
